Pregnenolone
Pregnenolone is a precursor to many other hormones and regulates hormonal production. In the body, it is used to make other steroids and hormones. It has been known to enhance memory and repair cells, including in the nervous system – the brain and spinal cord. It is used for alleviating fatigue and increasing energy, as well as combatting the ill effects of stress.
This hormone tends to decline with age. In some cases, after thorough evaluation of a patient’s diagnostic and test results and comprehensive health history review, if a deficiency is present, pregnenolone may be prescribed.
Pregnenolone levels in the body can begin to drop as early as 30 years of age. This can result in a decreased level of many other hormones that pregnenolone regulates such as cortisol and other hormones that regulate many important bodily functions. There is strong evidence that higher levels of pregnenolone improve cognitive functions such as memory and learning.
This is one of the many hormones we may prescribe, when it is clinically called for based on individual patient needs. Dr. Breen can accurately determine if and in what dosage you may need to supplement with this hormone.
